What Is Post-Construction Cleaning?

Post-construction cleaning is detailed cleaning of a building site after construction or renovation. It ensures the site is clean, safe, and ready for occupancy or use. It goes far beyond regular cleaning because of the type of debris, dust, and materials involved.

At APS Hoods, we ensure every corner of your newly built or remodeled space is clean, safe, and ready to use. We follow a standard operating procedure, but what we are proud of is our customer-first approach; ability to meet our customers’ needs. Let us know what you need, and we will begin working on them promptly.

Why Is Post-Construction Cleaning Important?

Entrusting professionals with post-construction cleaning is very important for several reasons:

  • Safety:

Debris and dust could be dangerous and harm workers or occupants. We remove hazardous waste to ensure your safety.

  • Aesthetics:

When the construction is over, your place does not still look like the fresh picture you had in mind. But when we finish the work, your space will be ready for photos, staging, and customer walkthroughs.

  • Functionality:

Dust or residue can damage HVAC, plumbing, and lighting systems. Post-construction cleaning guarantees that such things will not happen in your building.

  • Compliance:

Buildings, particularly restaurants and commercial kitchens, must follow the rules and building inspection codes. We promise your building's compliance with these regulations.

  • Project duration:

We help you turn over the property quickly and professionally.

Who Is Post-Construction Cleaning Important?

Although post-construction cleaning may appear simple and manageable, it is actually complex enough to confuse inexperienced individuals and cause issues. You can trust Specialized cleaning companies, general contractors, and in-house teams with this task.

Cleaning companies like ours are often licensed and insured, with expertise in handling construction waste, sharp objects, and fine dust. Sometimes hiring third-party cleaning crews is included in the contract, which makes it unnecessary to seek help from cleaning companies.

Another reason you might not need to hire these companies is having internal cleanup crews in the construction firm.

Restaurant Construction Cleaning Services

Restaurant construction cleaning is the thorough, multi-phase cleaning process that APS Hoods performs when your new restaurant is built or remodeled. Our goal is to prepare the space for food service operations and ensure that it is visually clean, health-code compliant, and safe for both staff and customers. This includes removing dust, debris, construction residues, and sanitizing all surfaces, especially food-contact areas.

Restaurant construction cleaning is quite different from general cleaning in so many ways. When cleaning restaurants after construction, we need to sanitize food preparation and service areas, as well as clean both the inside and outside of all appliances. However, in general cleaning, we typically only remove dust and debris, leaving out cleaning appliances altogether. Another major difference is that in restaurant construction cleaning, we must remove grease from ducts, hoods, and floors. In general cleaning, removing grease is not a concern. And importantly, when we carry out restaurant construction cleaning, we must meet health department and fire code standards, while cleaning other places generally does not need any specific health regulations. The standards required for cleaning restaurants include those of the local health department, OSHA, and sometimes the NFPA (fire safety) standards. Overall, it means there must be no leftover debris or dust in kitchen hoods or ductwork. We should sanitize surfaces in every food prep area. Pest prevention is required; it means there must be no crumbs or residue under the equipment. We need to clean the ventilation system properly. Sinks and floor drains must also be clean and operational. Failure to properly clean the space could delay opening or result in health code violations.

Call APS Hood to discuss your restaurant's cleaning strategies and get it ready for your first customers if your restaurant's construction is just finishing. Construction services have the potential to devastate both the interior and exterior of your dining space. Our construction cleaning experts can clean out your kitchen, dining areas, staff areas, storage areas, patio, and parking to get your commercial space ready for opening day.

What Are the Steps in Post-Construction Cleaning?

  1. Rough Cleaning (Initial Cleaning)

This step occurs after the major construction is complete, meaning when the framing, plumbing, and electrical procedures are finished, but touches such as flooring, painting, or cabinetry are not finalized yet. At this stage, we aim to create a safe and clean environment for workers to complete the following stages.

During this initial phase, we remove and clean all construction debris, including dust, caulk, paint overspray, and adhesives. We scrub the sliding glass doors, glass partitions, and windows (the frames and mullions). We also dust off air returns, grilles, and HVAC openings.

  2. Detailed Cleaning (Deep Cleaning)

We go through this phase once all construction is complete. That means painting, flooring, installations, and final touch-ups must be completed before deep cleaning. It is usually just before the final inspection or turnover to the owner. We attempt to transform the space from a "construction zone" into a livable, presentable space using the procedures we go through. We clean the entire space—windows and glass, bathrooms, kitchens, floors, HVAC systems, and air vents—at this stage. It's basically repeating the glass cleaning and adding in-depth cleaning to all interior surfaces. Once this stage is complete, your space will be ready to move into. To ensure you have a clean and comfortable space, we clean and sanitize the following before calling this stage complete:

  • Cabinets:

A microfiber towel and non-toxic cleaner are used to clean cabinets inside and out. The tops are vacuumed to remove accumulated dust and debris.

  • Bathrooms:

We clean the bathrooms from top to bottom, including the fixtures, floors, tubs, counters, showers, mirrors, and wall tiles.

  • Floors & Baseboards:

As construction cleanup experts, we take special care to clean flooring and baseboards with the utmost attention to detail. This part of the job is completed with special consideration of the type of flooring you have to prevent damage and ensure a polished final product.

  1. Touch-Up Cleaning (Settling Clean)

This phase takes place 1–5 days after detailed cleaning. After the dust settles in about a week, we return and wipe down all horizontal surfaces to ensure the removal of dust and debris. This step occurs after all trades have left but before handing over the keys. The tasks we perform at this stage enable us to address dust resettling, smudges, or last-minute imperfections. It also perfects the look and feel of the space. We remove smudges from the countertops and fingerprints from all glass surfaces and walls.

We guarantee a stress-free process from beginning to end. Once we complete our cleaning, you can move in and enjoy your newly sanitized environment.

What Are the Tools in Post-Construction Cleaning?

At APS Hoods, we use a variety of tools to assist in cleaning the area, including the following HEPA vacuums, industrial-strength cleaners and degreasers, microfiber cloths, putty knives, window squeegees, ladders, scaffolding, air scrubbers (for heavy dust environments), degreasers & enzyme cleaners (especially for kitchens), hospital-grade disinfectants, steam cleaners (for sanitizing without chemicals), scrapers, squeegees, microfiber cloths, pressure washers (for patios or tile), and personal protective equipment (PPE).

What Is the Cost of Post-Construction Cleaning?

The budget you must set for post-construction cleaning depends on the square footage of your kitchen, the number of kitchen appliances, the amount of post-construction mess, local labor costs, and timeline (rush jobs cost more).

However, we can estimate that the typical range is from $0.50 to over $1.00 per square foot. A full restaurant deep clean might cost anywhere from $2,000 to over $15,000.

How Can We Have an Eco-friendly Post-Construction Cleaning?

In today’s environmentally conscious world, an increasing number of customers are requesting eco-friendly products. Many cleaning companies use non-toxic products to meet their customers' needs and protect what matters most. More strategies are as follows:

  • Using biodegradable or low-VOC products
  • Recycling debris and packaging
  • Minimizing water use
  • HEPA-filtered vacuums to reduce airborne dust
