Internet Helps Denver Hood Cleaning Company Go From Regional To National

Filed under: Articles — Massoud Farazandeh @ 10:36 am

December 29, 2008—DENVER, COLORADO— When Massoud Farazandeh launched American Professional Services (APS-Hoods) and Nationwide Fire Protection Corporation in 1989, he didn’t foresee taking his companies national.

But that was before he incorporated the Internet into his business marketing plan. Today, his Denver hood cleaning company’s Web site, www.APS-Hoods.com, attracts business from several states. Soon it will enable him to provide fire protection, hood cleaning, HVAC and a wide variety of other services to businesses throughout the United States.

“This is an exciting time for us,” Farazandeh said. “We have provided a high-quality service to businesses in the Colorado and Midwest area for a number of years, and we feel prepared to expand those services nationwide.”

Going from regional to national is no simple task, but Farazandeh has a plan.

“We’re establishing our hood installation services in Wyoming and Arizona right now,” Farazandeh said, adding that he plans to expand services by two states at a time until he is nationwide. Ultimately, a decision will have to be made on whether to franchise the business or to open up additional offices in other states as needed.

Franchising is a strong possibility because “there are thousands of people out there dying for someone to train them to do this type of work,” he said. “In the end, they don’t become my competition because they will need my services for continued training, licensing and parts.”

APS-Hoods began as a company that offered limited services, namely restaurant kitchen hood cleaning and pressure washing services. Throughout the years it has evolved into a one-stop shop for myriad fire protection, cleaning and construction- and renovation-related services, including:

• Fire systems
• Fire alarms
• Sprinkler systems
• Fire extinguisher sales and services
• Fire suppression system installation, service and repair
• Fire detection systems
• Hood, duct and fan installation, servicing and cleaning
• Steam and pressure washing services
• Fire restoration
• Restaurant construction consulting

These service offerings are one reason Farazandeh decided to make the move to become a national company.

“There are states such as Wyoming and Utah for example, where there isn’t a great deal of competition because they just don’t have companies like us,” Farazandeh said. “That gives us a big advantage.”

Farazandeh sees the opportunity as more than just taking advantage of the fact that competition is sparse. It also makes good business sense from a simple growth perspective.

“Because of the capability and knowledge that we have, we can be more successful than we have been,” he said. “The number of jobs you can get when operating in one or two states is limited, so we needed to move beyond to grow the company.”

The Internet has made it easier for businesses in need of the services provided by APS-Hoods to find the company. A great deal of initial work in setting up the project is done via email and by phone, Farazandeh said.

Once out-of-state work is ready to begin, Farazandeh takes a large crew of workers to get the job done. For example, a local job may take two employees, but Farazandeh takes a crew of five or six to do the same job out of state. This way, a 10-day job can be completed in as few as three days, he said.

“The Internet definitely has enabled us to take our business from regional to nationwide,” Farazandeh said. “With the capability that exists today, our suppliers can supply us anywhere in the country, which means we can do this job anywhere in the country.”
