PLACENTIA AND LONG BEACH CALIFORNIA—American Professional Services (APS-Hoods), a Long Beach hood sales company, has announced expansion plans.
The company is seeking contractors with experience in the mechanical and electrical fields to become trained in kitchen exhaust hood cleaning and installation, said Massoud Farazandeh, chief executive officer of the company.

APS-Hoods is headquartered in Colorado, but opened a Placentia fabrication facility in August 2009 to better address the demand for Long Beach hood installations inquiries.

Since the Placentia facility opened, APS-Hoods has seen an increase in Long Beach hood cleaning and installation calls and inquiries from restaurant owners throughout the greater Los Angeles area and the Bay area looking to purchase commercial range hoods or have existing hoods serviced and cleaned, Farazandeh said.

“We see the need to hire and train additional contractors so we can provide our services more conveniently to restaurants throughout California,” Farazandeh said, adding that the company already offers its services throughout the state, but bringing on additional contractors who live in other areas will increase response times.

Contractors interested in working with APS-Hoods must meet high ethical and professional standards and must be insured and bonded, he said. They also must be certified with the city in which they work in the mechanical and/or electrical fields.

By bringing on additional contractors now and providing training, APS-Hoods plans to have its expansion underway by mid-summer, Farazandeh said. He also plans on launching mobile units that will be on call all the time.

“These units will be able to perform installations, hood cleanings, whatever is needed,” he said.

The expansion also will involve crossover training with Nationwide Fire Protection Corp., an affiliate of APS-Hoods that provides fire protection equipment sales, installation and service. Ultimately, Farazandeh wants crews to be trained in hood cleaning, installation and repair and in all aspects of fire suppression systems.

“By offering all of these services from one crew, it will be more convenient for restaurants to hire APS-Hoods and Nationwide Fire Protection for all related work,” Farazandeh said. “It will be more cost-effective as well.”

This service expansion and cross-training also will be a good option for franchises that have multiple stores.

“This makes everything much more automatic,” he said. “When the hood cleaner comes, the fire system also will be inspected. This will keep safety a priority in these commercial kitchens.”
