APS-Hoods Focuses on Restaurant Hooding Cleaning Education for National Fire Prevention Month

Filed under: News — Tags: Restaurant hood cleaning — Massoud Farazandeh @ 4:52 am

October 10, 2007—Denver, Colorado— A national fire protection and hood cleaning company is using National Fire Prevention Month in October as a platform to raise awareness regarding the importance of restaurants maintaining a routine hood, duct and fan cleaning schedule. The Aug. 29 tragedy of two Boston firefighters who died while battling a restaurant fire caused by grease build-up in the restaurant’s ceiling duct is a solemn reminder that this issue is overlooked far too often, said Massoud Farazandeh, general manager of Nationwide Fire Protection Corp., an affiliate of American Professional Services (APS-Hoods).

Farazandeh is willing to help change that. In honor of the Federal Emergency Management Organization’s National Fire Prevention Month, he is extending an invitation to area fire departments and other fire safety entities to speak at seminars and meetings on the importance of routine inspections and cleaning schedules for commercial kitchen hoods, ducts and fans.

National Fire Prevention Month is a time when restaurant owners and managers should be aware of ways to help learn fire safety and prevention, Farazandeh said. But it’s also a time to urge fire departments and inspectors to focus on the notion that routine inspections and cleanings can prevent kitchen fires and reduce the likelihood of property damage, injury and death.

Annual observances such as National Fire Prevention Month and the National Fire Protection Association’s National Fire Prevention Week- which also is recognized in October- are excellent opportunities to focus on fire hazards, Farazandeh said. But restaurant owners and managers should practice fire safety every day.

One of the most basic elements of kitchen fire safety in the restaurant industry is routine inspections and cleaning of hoods, ducts and fans, Farazandeh said.

“Hood, duct and fan cleaning on a regular basis done by a professional company is the cheapest, easiest and most practical way of preventing grease fires in the commercial kitchen,” he said.

Many factors determine how often cleaning should take place, but a reputable fire suppression system company that performs routine restaurant hood cleaning services can provide recommendations on how often the cleaning should take place, Farazandeh said.
